Hailing from Middlesbrough, Amelia Coburn is a folk-pop singer‑songwriter with a grounded pride in her Teesside heritage. Her early years were shaped by local stages, and she’s adamant you can be successful and be from Teesside
Amelia’s sound is a captivating mash‑up of folk, baroque pop, torch‑lit jazz and psychedelia. She’s known for weaving Tin Pan Alley melodies into European folk textures, crafting haunting yet upbeat songs that evoke the grandeur of cinema and literature. She cites influences ranging from Serge Gainsbourg, Rufus Wainwright and David Bowie to Joni Mitchell and Neil Hannon
Primarily playing ukulele, her first gift at age 14, Amelia bends expectations, making the uke sound like a harp, electric guitar, even percussion. But she's more than a multi-instrumentalist: praised for her “natural storyteller” flair, her songwriting explores quirky, moody narratives, from mythic vengeful widows to rambles through midnight Dublin.
